WWDC. Another release-less conference?

Well, it seems I won't be able to pick up Leopard at this years WWDC after all. Also, a late June shipping date, seems to suggest that Apple developers won't be able to get their hands on that one either on the actual conference. Is this a new Apple trend?

Let’s summarize:

  • The iPhone, though it will probably be announced on the WWDC it probably won't be shipping on the very conference.
  • Leopard will be shown to developers (with or without NDA), and a Beta will be given out to them. But not released. No release date will be set either, I guess.
  • With the Mac Pro announced, there is no hardware that it makes sense to release at a conference like WWDC. That includes iPods.
  • It Apple chose to release iLife or even the new (and spreadsheet-included) iWork, it would be a mockery to the whole idea of the WWDC. So let’s hope they don’t.

So where does that leave releases at this particular conference? And perhaps even more interesting a question is: Where does that leave Apple conferences?

Us, the cult, will undeniably flock to whatever conference Apple is holding, in order to let the o’ great one, Mr. Jobs, amaze us time and time again.

But is Apple now beginning to loose their firm grip on what they do best? With the MacWorld keynote being sort of anti-climaxed by the sans-Leopard and sans-Beatles factor of it, and with the fresh memory of the ‘fun products’-keynote, is Apple having problems amazing us?

Or will they perhaps release something I havn't yet thought about? Will they be announcing the iPhone mini? Will they produce iPhone bras to match the iPod socks? Black iMac? Will Steve Jobs be wearing a slightly blue-tinted black turtleneck, instead of the pure black one?

Ah, how I love rumor-season. Just don’t disappoint us, o’ mighty Jobs.

Good points, John. Let’s hope there will be something of note to announce. I think a black iMac could well be on the cards, but what about the much-rumoured ‘mini’ laptop we’ve been hearing about? That’d really make my day. The ‘MacBook Nano’, perhaps? Yummy…

Oh, yeah… Definitively want a MacBook Nano! A UMPC in a laptop-style form factor..! That would definitively be something..!

I would SO get that!
