My life as being not dead.
Readers, rejoice! The twisted intellect is not dead after all... I was just sleeping. And working. And reading. And without a DSL-connection.
Things around here has been a bit quiet (well, to be honest, a dead and dried-up clam has uttered more words than me, but anyway...) lately - so I'll just give a short little rant of what I've been doing...
Well, first of all, I've been working at a local art gallery (the same one I worked at last year). However, the workforce is increased, and the total workload is decreased, so days over there are a bit slow. On the hottest of days we are more staff than guests; but I guess quality comes before quantity...
I'm also in the process of finishing the latest Jeffrey Deaver-book, entitled ‘The Cold Moon’, and I must say - Deaver just keeps getting better and better, starting at perfection.
After finishing that book, I'm planning to continue reading, either “CSS Mastery: Advanced Web Standards Solutions (Solutions)” (Andy Budd, Simon Collison, Cameron Moll) or “War Junkie” (Jon Steele), whichever I can get my filthy hands on first...
Then, I've been watching a lot of movies, and today I followed up on that trend by buying twelve new DVDs:
- “How to Irritate People” (Ian Fordyce)
- “JFK” (Oliver Stone)
- “Maria Full of Grace” (Joshua Marston)
- “Monty Python's Life of Brian” (Anchor Bay)
- “Scarface” (Brian De Palma)
- “Gladiator (Single Disc Edition)” (Ridley Scott)
- “Poltergeist” (Tobe Hooper)
- “The Boston Strangler” (Richard Fleischer)
- “Schindler's List (Widescreen Edition)” (Steven Spielberg)
- “Little Britain - The Complete First Series” (Matt Lipsey, Steve Bendelack, Gareth Carrivick, Graham Linehan, Declan Lowney)
- “Platoon” (Oliver Stone)
- “Anne Frank: The Story of the Diary” (BBC)
So that ought to keep me busy for a couple of days, at least...
Now, I know this is turning out to be yet another bloated post about complete nothingness, and to be quite honest, I don't care. It's summer - my sister is right, you should be out doing something less geeky than surfing the web... I know I'm going to.

…elle - “mad4dg” - som eg like å kalla det….
(sorry about the excessive commenting in Norwegian here - but they started it…)
(NOT)
Ok, one thing is the comments coming in in Norwegian. I know from whenever there is excessive commenting in German over at Wolfgang’s, how irritating that is (and how paranoid I get) - so; I’ll just give a brief translation:
Rusnes was talking about a moviemaking competition we’ve entered, and whose winners is about to be announced. I gave some no-brain replies.
Marihøna seems to need my help (or rather HEEEEEELP!) with her Wintel computer; and points out that watching DVDs probably isn’t any less geeky than browsing the web.
And guess what? I’ll give a no-brain reply to that comment as well!:
I’m going away for about a week, so your PC will simply have to wait. (Why not get a mac instead? It just works.)
And yes, it is slightly less geeky to watch DVDs, as I’m not in any way a film-geek. If a film geek watched DVDs in 30°C - that would be equally as bad as being online.
Needless to say, I don’t much care for your “nynorskprofil”, no…
Did you ever get a new phone? I can finally recommend one to you. The Sony Ericsson k800i is an awesome beast and since your part of the world has 3G services, you’ll reap the benefits of the phone.
Another AWESOME phone is the Sony Ericsson M600i. I have one and haven’t been able to put it down. It runs an open source OS with the UIQ so there’s a shitload of applications for it. The touchscreen is AMAZINGLY SHARP. Only downside is the phone has no camera but on the plus side it has a QWERTY keyboard so mobile blogging, texting, and emailing (with full POP, IMAP, and attachment support) is easy.
Another phone is the Samsung SGH-D900. SUPER THIN, crazy hi-res screen. 3.13 megapixel camera with autofocus, music player, tv-out, all kinds of wireless goodies like bluetooth. This phone is simple, compact, and super powerful.
There’s a couple Nokia series 60 phones like the E61 and N93 that were interesting, but after playing with them, I found the build quality to be cheap and the OS SLOWWWWWWWW as hell once u start packing in lots of photos and things.
Thanks! Yes, as my Motorola finally took a dive into my beer (don’t ask) I had to get a new phone temporarily, at least…
So I’ve bought the Samsung SGH-820 - another “luxurious and ultra-thin” phone… But I’m thinking about changing pretty soon - the design of the 820 is simply lovely to look at, but my thumb can’t take it anymore… (When you slide the phone open, the top part, with the screen, as this sharp edge, that cuts my finger when I try to reach for the top buttons (1-2-3)…)
The K800i, I kind of feel, I’m paying a lot for the camera-gimmick, that I won’t use. (I’ve spent too much money on cameras to take pictures with the phone). But apart from that, it does look like an awesome phone…
What material is that phone made of, by the way? It’s got this “touch-me” thing going on for the buttons, from the pictures…
I have been looking a bit at the M600i. And the lack of camera doesn’t bother me at all, but what bothers me is that it looks a bit flimsy, if you know what I mean… Is this just bad product photography; or is it that “cheap plastic”?
And how exactly does the QWERTY-keyboard work? Do you press two times on the “E R” button to get to the R?
And - it comes preloaded with Opera?!
Samsung, I feel has had it’s trial run with me, for this time - and Nokia, I’ve come to the same conclution as you about most of their phones…
Additionally - I’ve been a longtime fan of Palm (yes, ugly OS, I know, but simple and no-frills nonetheless) - what’s your thoughts on the Treo?
And what about iSync, Mac syncronizing?
Thanks again for taking the time to help me out here!
If you really don’t care about a camera, then ignore the SE k800i. All of its features are centered around the camera. It’s made of a textured metal on the front, and texture plastic on the back. Very solid but surprising light for something that looks like it weighs a ton.
The M600i sound like the phone for you. It’s CRAZY thin for all the functions it carries. It’s not flimsy at all. If you know what an iPod feels like, it’s about the same, minus the shiny film. It has a subtle metalic finish on it that can’t really be captured in product shots and also keeps it from being too slippery. I have the white one. The black one picks up fingerprints fast.
Each key has two letters on it. For example one key has the letters ‘Q’ and ‘W’ on it. If you want the letter ‘Q’, you push the left side of the button. If you want the letter ‘W’, you push the right side. I know it sounds TOTALLY weird but it only took me about an hour to adjust. I can type A LOT faster on it now. Just train your eyes to see the letters only, not the whole button. That’s why the buttons are pretty wide and concave, so it’s more tactile.
Yes it does come preloaded with Opera 8.6 which is SOOOOOOOO GOOD. It’s a real browser that supports almost all web standards, CSS, Javascript, Flash, Quicktime, etc… I’ve only had trouble playing WMVs, but you can get around that by playing in a different application. Negative side, it doesn’t have WIFI and here in America there’s no 3G services so I’m stuck with slow ass GPRS. If you have 3G service, you’ll love this phone as it opens up many features I’m unable to use.
Here’s the bad news. Currently iSync does not support the M600i, simply because Symbian 9.0 and UIQ 3 are too new. Maybe in the next update it will but for now, you can only transfer contacts. Bummer.
TREOS are good phones but I find them to be buggy and slow sometimes. Sad thing is the PALM OS is soooo outdated now. The next rumored TREO 800 is a beast. Wifi, EDVO (which I don’t know is available in Europe, it’s America’s version of 3G), 3 megapixel camera and a huge 320x320 QVGA touchscreen. It’s supposed to come out in March. Don’t get any of the current TREOS or you’ll be stuck with legacy hardware and software that may or may not receive any future support.
Treo: March 2007? Well, that seems perfect then.. I could buy the M600i now (or at least when my next paycheck arrives) and wear that one down until the Treo 800 gets ready…
How is it with previous versions of Symbian OS; how well supported have they been in iSync in the past? (And in turn, how well supported can we suppose v9 will be once Apple gets ‘round to it…)
Overall SonyEricsson has seemed to be the most willing of all phone manufacturers to provide Apple with all it needs for iSync…
Oh, and that round hole at the back; is that a standard antenna input?
Also - how good does it perform on battery and signal strength?
Oh, and: “Mobile RSS feeds give you up-to-the-minute news updates.”
How does that feature play out?
Since I’m referred to in this discussion I feel I have to take say a few words as well.
“If a film geek watched DVDs in 30°C - that would be equally as bad as being online.”
OK, if watching films is bad, is a film geek making film in 30°C better? At least I get to be outside and enjoy the sun, getting the tan of my life.
And, yes. A trip to Italy certainly would be nice. Too bad you’re not going :P
Yup. I definitely think you deserve the “fuck you” more than the “congratulations”… :P
Well, no. A film geek making movies in 30°C is fine, as you’re not isolating yourself from other people in an egosentric activity that consumes a larger part of your life than what is considered normal. (Films does not consume a large percentage of my life, nor my ‘knowledge base’ so to speak - ie. I’m not a filmgeek, hence it’s perfectly okay for me to isolate myself an watch films..)
Though that in itself may be socially accepted to do; (isolating yourself et cetera) - it is not so, during unusual periods, such as any prolonged period of nice weather - as this is a socialanthropologic indicator for social networking based on a common ground, which all members of the geolocal community can share - which is the weather.
The weather has long been used specifically for this purpose, as one of the few things that most people have some sort of relationship or opinion of. Hence the “nice weather we have today”-comments one tend to get from every cabbie in the world.
So. I certainly hope this clears things up a little for you…
Yes, certainly clears things up. Look’s like the weather is clearing up too.
