Always two sides...
I guess you've all read the news-stories regarding the now-released 9/11 emergency-calls, and made up your minds (like I did), that the phone operators were making a huge mistake by not telling people to evacuate.
Well, there are always two sides of an issue...
We all know now that the towers would collapse; and everyone in the building would die. And of course we know that people would survive, if they were to get out of the trade towers in time.
However, according to Judith Saldago, a fire dispatcher that worked on September 11th; staying put is the smartest thing to do, in case of fire; unless you are in the close proximity of the fire.
That was the only thing they could be told. Because for the people above where the planes hit couldn't get down anyway...
[...] So basically you would be telling someone; “OK, go down the stairs,” and they would get to a level where they would see... nothing. There would be no more stairs for them to go down.
She, in an interview with the New York Times (sorry for the heavy NYT-factor today) tells us about the situation from her point of view.
When they listen to the tapes and hear a dispatcher that seems uncaring or unemotional, the public should under stand that that's what you need in that situation...
The entire interview (approx. 5-10 minutes) is available right here, and is in my opinion vital to the understanding of this case. --------
