Time to sell your Apple-shares?

| | Comments (13)

The Beatles are suing Apple, for using it's name and logo (BBC News); and undoubtedly, if Apple is to lose this one - it'll most likely mean that the shareprice is going to take the heat at some point.

And my guess is that we're going to see a drop in shareprice very soon, due to the hefty consequences a defeat in court will have for Apple.

The case is - that if Apple loses, they will have to re-license the Apple brand on all musical content-related items and services. That'll mean the ITMS, the iPod, the iTunes and soforth.

It's going to be interesting to follow the AAPL in the days to come...

Isn’t this the third or fourth time this happens?

Apple being sued; or Apple being sued by Apple Corps?

The point here, is that the implications if Apple loses this legal batte will be sort of… well, large…

Analysts are already talking about a drop in shareprice; and even that statement is probable to lead to a drop in itself…

Analysts predict a drop in the share price every month, and have done so for as long as I’ve used a Mac (since 1991).

The battle with The Beatles’ Apple started long before 1991. First, Apple Computers settled, promising not to enter the music marketplace (!). This was just before “multimedia” became the buzzword, and, of course, before i-this and that (e.g. -pod and -tunes). Years later, The Beatles won another law suit since Apple started to ship computers with speakers, allowing music to be played through the internal speaker or attachable speakers. So far, this cost Apple arount $50 million in lost suits.

These days, I guess it’s about iTunes and iTunes music store, and Apple Computers will probably have to open their wallets again. But, obviously , they don’t care. Why? Because it doesn’t matter, financially and share-wise.

That’s the way corporate life is, I guess. The earnings from breaking the agreements with the Beatles are far higher than the petty cash they have to pay in order to straighten the jacket with the small and powerless record company. And Steve’s an asshole, as we all know, not giving a shit about ethics.

So, Jørgen, don’t sell your Apple shares just yet.
