Telenor's Dinosaurs
Telenor, Norway's leading telecommunication firm, has newly revamped theirlogo to signal that they are 'a modern, inventive company'. However, one glance at their homepage's source leave you with quite another view...
I'll spare you the gross details, but the long and short of it is: tables, no title-tags whatsoever and the ever lovely 1-by-1 px gif...
So I thought I'd drop Telenor a little note...

Subject: Web Telenor Mobile,
regarding your website; what's the reasoning behind your refusal to use title-tags on your links?
And wouldn't it be a good idea to adding some accesskeys to some of your links (like 'New SMS')?!
And - I expect webdesigner in charge to reply to this one - how can it be defended that Telenor, that's supposed to be an ever-changing, modern corporation et cetera, is still using tables for design purposes?!
And what about p.gif?! I as a webdesigner hasn't seen a 1x1-gif used since the 1990's...
How can Telenor expect to look like a firm in the 'technological upper-class', if you're still using outdated techniques within webdesign?
The techniques used on these sites are ones that hasn't seen the light of web since 1998; not only because they make the pages virtually unusable for persons that rely on aids such as speech synthesis, but also because they make the pages a lot heavier and slower-loading than nessecary, and because they go against the very main principles of html...

Today I got my reply...

Subject: RE: FW: Title:... Hi. Thank you for your e-mail.
You are of course completely right in that Telenormobil.no is coded in a less than effective and obsolete way.
Now, the situation is this that many large corporations have partly old web site solutions with thousands of pages, and it takes “some” time when each and all pages are to be coded into the CMS'es. We hope to be releasing a new version of Telenors websites in a matter of not too long.
The comfort will have to be that Telenor's web site www.online.no was recoded according to current standards for xhtml and css, and that the company's websites keep winning awards.
Wishing you a very pleasant weekend.
Sincerely,
Hans Petter Aalmo

Telenor admitting they are “less than effective and obsolete”... Now there's something you don't see every day..

Also, online.no sucks cock. So that wasn’t much of a comfort.
Well, as far as big portals go, I’d say online is far from the worst around. It still sucks. But I’d say it sucks toe more than it sucks penis…
But that’s just me…
