Slobodan Milosevic has died
Relata refero, Milosevic has died in his cell. Milosevic's death comes at the end of a relatively long line of important political deaths. Yasser Arafat, Rafic Hariri, John Paul II and additionally the falling ill of Ariel Sharon.
How is this shift of generations going to affect world politics?
Even though the sircumstances surrounding these deaths, and the political area which their deaths affects are not the same across the line; each and every one of these deaths is yet another drop into the already full glass of world stability.
After the death of Yasser Arafat many feared an increase in middle eastern violence, which didn't happen. After the death of Rafic Hariri, violence did increase in Lebanon. Many people were hoping for a more liberal pope to succeed John Paul II - and who knows what'll happen when Ariel Sharon eventually passes away?
Are we going to see a new world movement offering 'love not war', cedant arma togae, and flowers? Or are we going to see a surge in violence, finally ending in George W. Bush bombing us back to the stone age?
