Nikon to pull out of the analogue market!

| | Comments (0)

bbc reports that Nikon is to pull out of the analogue camera market, to “focus on digital products instead”.

To me, that seems just as 'wrong' as 'MacBook Pro'...

I've always been a big Nikon-fan... I started digital photography on a Coolpix, and I currently own both a Coolpix 5700 and a D2x; but I've never actually owned a film-based Nikon. However - I think that not making film-based cameras are sort of a worst-case scenario..

Not that I believe that Nikon sells a hell of a lot of film-based cameras. No doubt is the digital market more lucrative. But you cannot kill photography!

Yes, it's part nostalgia, that I defend analogue photography to such a degree; but not even a D2x give the same photographic feeling as the good old film-based... It's a lot more practical, but it doesn't feel the same...

Same goes for the iPod. It's increadible practical. But you cannot beat the quality of the lp! (I wouldn't bring a grammophone on the bus, though...) Same with computers... Monkey Island 2, anyone?

Now - I can already see what's going to happen - Nikon, Kodak, Canon and all of the other major players will go digital-only. And when they do... When they think all is won and well... Then... Then Pentax will come along; and introduce the most amazing analogue, ever; and revolutionize the world!!!

...or maybe not...
