Music & Design
I like cds. Not more than lp records; but more than mp3s... Yes they do all end up ripped onto my Mac and iPod, but the cd is still very special to me.
The reason being the cover.
I'm one of those people who litterary judges a book by its cover, and equally so with cds. And when I bought music last time (a couple of days ago) - I was mostly right in my judgements... Or two out of three, at least...
Sheryl Crow - Wildflower{a}Let me bow my head in deep admiration to psyop, who did this brilliant, illustrated, cover!
As I'm completely knockleheaded when it comes to drawing and illustrating, I'm always impressed by the work of great illustrators... This, however is something so genious in it's simplicity, I probably would've bought the album, even if I wasn't a Sheryl Crow-fan..!
Now, let me just take a moment to explain why I like Sheryl Crow (an artist who thanks Elton John for the musical inspiration)... I like artists who is in touch with reality when it comes to their own place in regards to the music they do... Sheryl Crow plays mindless country-pop-rock. And that's exactly what she does. Nothing more, nothing less...
Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera is in the range of “mindless pop” - but tries to fit into the “genious and reveloutionizing”-category. That's not right! t.A.T.u plays mindless pop, too - only they know it! And they do a damn good job at it!
Octavia Sperati - Winter Enclosure{a}This Norwegian band, I picked up simply due to the simplicity and quality of the cover. I'd never heard of them, and bought the album instantly. The designers name is Adrian Wear - and from what I can see, he works for PHM...
Now, aside from the intriguing simplicity of the cover, I'd also like to spend a few lines of text on the quality of the music, as well...
This is by far one of my best discoveries of late. This is an increadibly pleasant album a must in any cd collection! It does fit in the 'Doom- and goth-metal'-genre, but it definitively stands out; and I'd say even non-metalheads should give this a go... It's sort of Nightwishy, only more mysterious, and a bit cleaner...
Tom Waits - Real Gone{a}And this is where I was wrong. I absolutely hate this cover. And for a album sporting songs like “The Day After Tomorrow” and “How's It Gonna End”, the cover doesn't even feel right for the album! The album rules; the cover doesn't!
What's your favourite covers, and why?!

To answer my own question:
My favourite album cover, by far, is Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds with the “The Lyre of Orpheus” and “Abbotiar Blues” double-album!
Love the typo, love the material, love the music, love the photography, love the colors, love the consistency, love, love, love!!!!
