Google Support the War on Spyware

| | Comments (0)

Google and Sun Microsystems are among the sponsors for the Stop Badware.org organization. The org is run by the Consumer Reports WebWatch.

Unfortunately, the site itself sucks! :D

But let's start with the good sides.

We've all seen it happen: you or someone you know has downloaded something from the internet that seemed harmless enough at the time. Next thing you know, the computer has slowed to a crawl. Pop-up advertising starts to appear out of nowhere. Private information gets sent to some company you've never heard of.

Easy solution: Switch. Solution for mac-haters like Google: StopBadware.org. Now, for Bill and boys, this is a good and long-awaited counterweight to the 'badware' evil-doers.

But what about the website?

Devilish hellfire! It's table! It's not W3C-compliant (yes, yes, I know...), it links to a javascript containing all JS needed on any page, on every page! And it looks butt ugly!

Not that I'm especially excited about Google's general UI (Analytics excepted), and Sun Microsystems hasn't had the best trackrecord when it comes to web design; but when fighting such an important 'war' for the Windows-users, why not use something other than 1997s web design?!

Oh, and it's CC, so if you want to copy any of the genius; feel free! :P
