Discover Modern Tech
ok, so I watched this documentary onDiscovery Sience just now, on ufos, and how they used "State of the art technology" to track "intelligent life". No, it isn't the fact that they didn't find me - but the fact that this documentary, aired in 2005, thinks that a 386 running Windows 3,1 is state of the art.
Sure, the documentary is old. I know I can't expect too much at 9 o'clock am. But was 386/Win3,1 state of the art even in 1996? No.
First of all, I remember playing Monkey Island two on a 386 looong before 1996. And if a computer was designed to look for intelligent life, would it then run on Windows 3,1? No. 3,11? No. It probably wouldn't even run Windows 65 or NT.
If you're going to have state of the art technology for a purpose like looking for little, green men, you are going to build a system from scratch, probably based around a unix-core. Not a flimsy consumer-market os!!
Now, was the alien-hunters of 1996 incredible stupid geeks, who wasn't allowed to play with the other geeks? No.
Has the Discovery Channel done a terrible job in research, and not come up with anything better than incredible stupid geeks, who wasn't allowed to play with the other geeks? Probably.
This isn't the only thing I've noticed on Discovery lately.
"Brainiac" is a new program on Discovery Channel. The program is probably based on the huge success of "Mythbusters". Unfortunately, the program steals content from Mythbusters, and does so terribly!
During Friday's show, we saw the brainiacs test out the myth of the brown note. Now, they didn't actually test it. They played it to a person on a toilet, then joked the entire thing off. Further on, we saw them raise the question on weather or not jumping in a falling elevator will save your life. Who doesn't remember Buster jumping in the elevator of a 8-story building, with Adam and Jamie jumping right there with him?
No goodsie. No goodsie at all.

All right. Of topic, I saw your comment on the linkblog, and I think you are forgetting one thing: My sock is custom made :D. No, seriously, the iWood thing looks nice, but I think it makes the nano a lot bigger than it has to be. And you know, the words “nano” and “big” in the same sentence is not a good combination :)
Well, sure.. But still.. It is the most sexy thing I’ve seen made in wood for a long time.. I’m absolutely thinking of buying one for my video; whenever it comes out…
I so agree. They could have at least ran Mac OS 7.1 or something. :)
True, true…
