Wallace and Gromit living 'Next Door' to Paris Hilton
Yes, I know - but I thought I'd try to make a headline to cover what I was going to write about...
Which are the three movies I've seen lately: 'Wallace and Gromit', 'Next Door' and 'House of Wax'.
Which are the three movies I've seen lately: 'Wallace and Gromit', 'Next Door' and 'House of Wax'.
Now - these aren't the only films I've seen lately, by far, but they are the ones that has made the greatest impressions on me.
Wallace and Gromit (Feat. the Madagascar-penguins)
This is simply a masterpiece of a movie. Or rather movies, if you count the penguin-movie as a seperate movie (which it was).
Now, to take the penguins first. This movie is DreamWorks at it absolutely finest. The penguins (who are the best characters in Madagascar, by my standards) are even funnier in this movie, than in Madagascar. This 10-minutes long segment is well worth the movie ticket itself.
Now, the movie is only a build-up however, to W&G. Now, if you love W&G (which one has to) you're going to adore this movie. It's classic Wallace and Gromit and tons more on top of that again! This is hand-crafted comedy history at it's finest! I'm unsure of what more to say - other than go experience it yourself! Do it! Stop reading and go to the movies! Now!
The details in this movie are extaordinary, and it strikes you as the kind of movie you could, and should, watch over and over, and still find new elements to laugh your head off from. This is pure entertainment, stripped of American capitalism, preaching moralists and cheap jokes.
Next Door
I'm usually not this positive towards films - I love witing sarcastic critics and painful reviews. Especially when it comes to Norwegian films. Norwegian genre-films are the worst. This, however is cinematic art.
Now, Next Door ('Naboer') is one of those movies to which I had absolutely no expectations. The movie got X-rated, and in the case of Norwegian movies, that usually means “tacky semi-pornographic artfilm”.
It's also one of those films that actually surprised me by being the complete oposite of what I anticipated. I actually think this movie is best when you do not know exactly what it's about, when you first see it, so I won't reveal to much.
I'll just say that this is a must-see. The subtitling is better than what I've seen on most Norwegian movies - and it all seems fairly natural. If you live outside Norway, drop me a line, and I'll even buy a copy of the DVD for you...
House of Wax
Take one group of pretty, American teenagers. Mix in an abandoned town, some strangers, a big forest and some serialkillers. Sprinkle with Paris Hilton. The result: Surprisingly good!
Yes, the story's incredibly thin. And yes, Paris Hilton has no future in acting. However, the cinematics of this movie is bordering on art, and the SFX are at times fantastic.
It's actually so good, that you forget about the rest. This is the best [read: only good] horror film I've ever seen - and it actually do hold you at the seat of your chair at all times.
I swear I have never hid my face in the palm of my hands for any horror-movie, ever! But this movie made me do just that. I didn't know they made good horror-flicks. At least not starring American teenagers and Paris Hilton.
And the DVD edition is one of the better DVDs I've seen in a long time. Not only is there the B-roll - the B-roll is also commented by the Cast. Nice touch! Also, you have the Behind-the-scenes, stage-seting, SFX, alternative opening, Bloopers and trailer.
Whoever would believe that Paris Hilton should take part in two good movies! ;)

First off all Wallace & Gromit is just the best! Nick Park is a genious! I havn’t seen the new movie, but I will and my expectation are high.
You wan’t to buy someone something?! That movie must be good!
As for House of Wax, I’ve seen much worse, yes, but if it’s the best horror film you’ve seen it’s time you see The Thing. Absolutely great horror flick from 1982 by horror pioneer John Carpenter, starring Kurt Russel. It’s hand down the best horror film.
Willl do…
You have to see the W&G-film… I even think Paal needs to see it, because of the Penguin-stuff alone…
Sin City, however - not for me…
