iTunes 5

| | Comments (0)

Apple has released iTunes 5, and I've got to say - it's closing up to perfection. We've finally got the ability to collect our playlists in folders (there has been rumors of this going around the net for a long time), the interface looks lovely (as you know, I absolutely hate the 'brushed metal'-look, and iTunes has needed a tuneup for a long time!)

The most impressive GUI-work has been put in the “top display” where you now get both the played time and the remaining time, a naughty striped progress-bar, and it's all with the sexiest emboss you'd ever seen!

The possibility to view video seems more integrated in iTunes 5, in contradict to feeling like a confused bit of QuickTime-plugin in the last version. And, just to remind you - iTunes can still play Quicktime movies in fullscreen, even if you do not haveQT Pro...

Searching has been improved - and seems easier... But I find it odd, that there seems to be no easy way of exporting my searches into a smart playlists...

Another feature added is the possibility to add parental controls - “No, I do not want my kid to listen to podcasts.” - is it just me who has a problem seeing the good effect in that? I tried a one-week subscription to the “Radio Whore Sex Show”, and when I didn't even find THAT show to be in any way shocking or appalling - well, then I can't say I regard podcasts the work of Satan....

You might also be aware that I don't actually care much for the Windows version of iTunes - I don't care much for Windows in general, come to think of it - so I'll have to see how I like the Windows version as well - how much can the MS core disrupt the GUI, is actually the real question I'm asking here... ;) We'll see...

UPDATE: Of course you need the Nano to top it off! My girlfriend will probably get one of those before I do, and it just aches me! I WANT iPOD NANO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UPDATE: I've suddenly noted a small problem, however: I cannot resize the window to fill my entire screen! It stops resizing about 4 pixels before it should. My resolution is 1280*1024 - am I the only one with this problem?!
