OK, so this isn't really an original thought - I'm simply repeating what I heard on Type Radio - one of my favourite podcasts...
What if all font authors had the possibility to embed all sorts of information into their fonts? I'm talking about licensing information, pricing, authorship et cetera.

What we are really talking about is EXIF for fonts...
Personally, I have about 100 illegal fonts on my mac - an litterally no way of knowing wich I can use for my commercial projects. That leaves me with only one option: no only use fonts from my “safelist” - i.e limiting my creativeness...
